Daimler Bus Company and its service brand Omniplus have launched a mobile 3D Printing center for decentralized production of parts so that they can provide bus customers with replacement parts more quickly. This is a “mini factory” in the form of a container, which includes all sites related to the use of 3D printers to produce spare parts, covering an area of only 36 square meters. This 12×3 meter container can be transported to any place by truck, and it only needs electricity and an Internet connection to operate.
The mobile container is equipped with a top industrial 3D printer, CAD workstation, powder processing station, a sandblasting system, an air compressor, as well as industrial vacuum cleaners, air filters and air conditioning systems. The mobile printer factory is currently in use at the BusWorld Home (BWH) service center in Hamburg. In addition to providing a series of services for Mercedes-Benz and Setra buses, the Hamburg Service Center will be able to quickly produce spare parts in-house. As a result, physical transportation routes are further reduced, and spare parts arrive at the customer site faster.
