In recent years, with the continuous improvement of people’s living standards, a single plating color can no longer meet people’s needs, and two-color machines and multi-color plating operations have emerged. It is not only beautiful in appearance but also in various forms, and has been applied to many decorations. Now I mainly share the main process flow of the two-color electroplating industry:

1. Two-color electroplating process flow

The base color is electroplated, the color separation paint is applied, the laser pattern is electroplated twice, the color separation paint is faded, and the protective film is sprayed.

2. Operating points of each process of two-color electroplating

Taking partial black nickel plating and partial real gold plating on zinc alloy buttons as examples, this new two-color electroplating method is briefly introduced.

1) Background electroplating

According to the conventional black nickel drawing electroplating process, that is, the method of rough-dewaxing-degreasing-activation-cyanide copper plating-pyrophosphate copper plating-acid bright copper plating-bright nickel plating-black nickel plating-passivation-drawing. During production, attention should be paid to avoid blistering, scorching, and burrs of the coating, and to control the thickness of the nickel layer to prevent the nickel layer from being too thin and causing the drawing to reveal the bottom;

2) Color paint on top

Use special color separation paint, use spray gun spray or direct dip coating to cover the entire workpiece, put it in the oven after evenly coating, bake at 80°C for 1h, and use it after natural cooling for later use. The color barrier paint has good compactness, acid and alkali resistance, and good adhesion to the substrate coating;

3) Laser pattern

Choose the DP—H50 laser marking machine to laser various patterns according to the requirements. The laser must reach the electroplating layer under the color barrier paint, that is, the laser must penetrate the color barrier paint layer and not hit the substrate, preferably the laser to the copper plating layer Layer to ensure good adhesion of subsequent plating. During production, first select the pattern to be lasered, and then adjust the effective vector step length of the laser machine, marking time, laser current and other parameters for laser. Repeat the laser multiple times until the laser reaches the electroplated copper layer;

4) Secondary plating

The second electroplating process is carried out immediately after the laser. The specific process flow is as follows: hanging up, degreasing, scorched copper, acid copper plating, bright nickel plating, and real gold plating. When hanging up, pull back and forth several times to remove the color barrier paint on the surface of the contact point and expose the electroplated metal layer to ensure good conductivity. Scorched copper can enhance the bonding force of the coating, acid copper can improve the brightness and flatness of the coating, and bright nickel plating can improve the corrosion resistance of the coating. The current should be small during electroplating to prevent the coating from scorching. The time of acid copper plating should not be less than 30min, and sufficient thickness should be ensured to highlight the unevenness of two-color electroplating;

5) Fading color paint

Use 303 thinner to remove the color separation paint at room temperature, and then ultrasonically clean for 2 to 3 minutes until it is exhausted, but the coating cannot be discolored;

6) Spray protective film

Electrostatic spraying ZH671878 acrylic type baking varnish is used as the protective film. The baking temperature is 110~120℃, and the baking time is 30~60min. The film layer is required to be continuous and free of particles.

3. Precautions for two-color electroplating

Plastic packaging manufacturers need to hand over each process in time during production, and the stay time should not be too long. The cleaning between each process must be clean, and each process must be free from bumps and scratches. It must be strictly checked and unqualified products must be picked out in time. , Shall not flow into the next process.
